Outreach

Highland Park Elementary School

As a member church of Congregations in Action (C.I.A.), Christ Church shares in a partnership with Highland Park Elementary School located two blocks away in the Old Southwest neighborhood. Church members help with school projects or volunteer as tutors, mentors or “lunch buddies,” and by contributing supplies for use at the school.

Star City Social Club

The Star City Social Club was formed in 1981 to help meet the needs of people in the Roanoke area who live with chronic mental illness. Every second and fourth Thursday, 40-50 club members meet at Christ Church for dinner, recreation, and companionship. Group activities have included crafts, bingo, singing, trips to area restaurants, and games such as Categories and Hangman.  Volunteers are always needed to prepare dinner, provide desserts, join in group activities and/or wash dishes.

Outreach Grants

Members of the Parish are eligible to submit outreach grant requests which will meet outreach needs in our church and surrounding community.  You can access Outreach Grant forms in the Parish Office or by clicking here.  Once completed, return the form to Patricia Cope or the Parish Office.  Our Senior High Youth will review it and, if they agree it is appropriate, will present it to the Vestry for final approval.

Feed The Hungry

One of the simplest ways to help people in need is to contribute to the Christ Church “Feed the Hungry” Offering. Each month, a different organization is designated as the recipient of this offering, which is taken up along with the regular Sunday collections. Special envelopes marked “Feed the Hungry” are available in the pew racks. A description of the current featured ministry will appear in the Parish Home Companion. Each organization is carefully researched, and previous recipients have included local, national, and international organizations.
